Jose Mourinho launched a scathing attack following his teams 1-1 draw away at Southampton on Sunday.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Mourinho was livid that no penalty was given for what he believed to be a foul on Cesc Fabregas in the second half and claimed there is a “campaign” against Chelsea when it comes to simulation.
“Everybody else has the same opinion,” Mourinho said. “We don’t need to speak about it because everybody else saw it. The referee made a mistake. Everybody makes mistakes but it was a big mistake. He is a very good referee, he is young, he has years and years of football ahead of him. It was a big mistake.”
But then Mourinho went on to say that there is a campaign against Chelsea, as the Blues have had five yellow cards dished out for simulation this season and he believes it is not right.
“I think it is clearly the result of something that looks like a campaign,” Mourinho said. “In the first match Diego got a yellow when it should have been a red card and a penalty at Burnley. A few moths later we lost two points in a match where the penalty is there and Fabregas gets a yellow card. In football we are trying to change the bad things. The double punishment is something unbelievable… It should be easy. Anthony goes to a screen, he sees he makes a mistake. He is an honest guy, he admits he makes a mistake and lets clean the yellow card to Cesc Fabregas. It should be a simple process.”
The incident in question occurred when Fabregas got the ball just inside the right side of the penalty box and pushed it clear of teenage defender Matt Targett. The Spaniard went down after being clipped by Targett, who seemed to slip, but instead of awarding Chelsea a penalty kick which could have put them 2-1 up, referee Anthony Taylor booked Fabregas for simulation. The Spanish midfielder was incensed as he waved his arms in the air repeatedly and was jeered for the rest of the match by the home supporters
