Imo State Government has given an assurance that it will provide a level play ground for all aspirants in the State, irrespective of their political affiliations, to promote peace and unity. In pursuance of this policy it has approved that political parties in the State use and enjoy all government facilities for their political rallies and campaigns.
Governor Rochas Okorocha who disclosed this in a press briefing at the Government House said that days of political bickering and bitterness is over in the state, pointing out that things that promote progress in the state should be promoted by all for the state to move forward.
The state governor who maintained that his administration will provide a level play ground for all aspirants irrespective of political affiliation, said “nobody will be stopped from carrying out his constitutional right on campaign.”
He, however, banned the littering of the state capital with posters as he enjoined politicians to make use of bill boards positioned at approved places and to play politics by the rules.
Owelle Okorocha revealed that All Progressive Congress (APC) would embark on candidate assessment programme by the communities, which he called an innovation in democratic structure of the state to empower the grass root in determining their political leaders, as well as eliminate politicians with criminal records. He therefore advised APC aspirants to take note and obtain their approvals from their communities, and necessary authorities before the party will endorse them.
The Rescue Governor assured APC aspirants of free play ground void of god-fatherism.  He announced that traditional rulers in the state were free to receive any aspirant in their palace, irrespective of party affiliation, even as he disapproved of the gathering of traditional rulers together for political campaigns.
