Three former members of staff of a community bank were on Friday in Lagos arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud and theft of N41 million belonging to the bank.

The accused, Tunde Jinadu, 65; Jackson Idika, 38; and Agboola Olayinka, 35, charged with conspiracy, fraud and stealing, were alleged to have stolen the money on July 4, 2008.

Police prosecutor, DSP J. Oloruntoba, told the court the accused who were employees of defunct the Alabukun Community Bank ,used a Standard Trust Bank (now UBA) draft with number 00134109 to steal the money.

Oloruntoba said that the offences contravened the Criminal Law.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and their counsel to Idika and Olayinka, Mr A.O. Nweke, argued that the charges against them were defective.

Nweke told the court that the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011, was not in existence when the alleged offences were committed, arguing that the charge contravened some sections of the 1999 Constitution.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubenje adjourned the case to January 21
