Outrage in Senate as Service Chiefs fail to honour summons

There was anger in senate yesterday over the failure of Service Chiefs to appear before the Senate to brief the Lawmakers on the extension of state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe
This was as the meeting scheduled by the Senate Committee on Aviation, the Minister of Aviation, Princes Stella Oduah and other stakeholders over associated plane crash and other issues in aviation sector was postponed till next week Tuesday due to emergency situation at the Nnamdi Azikwe airport.
A senator who pleaded for anonymity said lawmakers were angry over absence of the Service Chiefs from the meeting which had earlier being scheduled with service chiefs.
The Service Chiefs were to brief the Senate on the State of Emergency declared by President Goodluck Jonathan on Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States, which was renewed for another six months last month.
Briefing Senate Correspondents after plenary on Thursday, the Senate Spokesman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, said that tackling insecurity in Nigeria was paramount to the Senate.
He added that the meeting was put forward due to the absence of majority of the Service Chiefs.
The Chief of Army Staff, Naval Staff and the Inspector of Police were absent, while the Chief of Defense and Air Staff were at the Senate for the Security meeting.
