A Ringim Magistrates’ Court in Jigawa, on Wednesday, re-issued an order for the arrest of Sen. Danladi Sankara (PDP-Jigawa North-West), his son, Auwal, and one Dan Gumel, for contempt.
Alhaji Farouq Aliyu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had filed an action against Sankara and others for alleged malicious destruction of his property in September.
Aliyu alleged that Sankara conspired and incited others to commit assault, causing grievous hurt and destruction of his property during the recent legislative bye-election in the State.
At the resumed hearing of the case, the three defendants were represented by their counsel, Mr Omereonye Morgans.
The Magistrate, Malam Nuhu Aminu, said the case was criminal in nature hence need for the defendants to be present in court.
He said that due to their absence at the last hearing, the Commissioner of Police was ordered to arrest and bring them to court.
The magistrate noted that the order was not carried out by the police.
He re-directed the commissioner of police and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone A, to arrest and ensure that they appeared in court on Dec. 23.
“Due to the absence of defendants in court, the bench warrant will be issued again for their arrest based on Section 70 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, Laws of Jigawa State” , Aminu said.
The first bench warrant was issued on Nov. 27 following their absence and without legal representation
