A meeting convened by President Goodluck Jonathan to find lasting solution to the lingering crisis in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), ended in a deadlock on Monday, with the participants agreeing to reconvene again.
The meeting, which held behind closed doors, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was attended by Vice President Namadi Sambo, the chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih and some Governors loyal to the President and Alhaji Bamanga Tukur-led PDP.
Present were Governors Godswil Akpabio-Akwa Ibom, Idris Wada-Kogi, Ibrahim Shema-Katsina and Liyel Imoko-Cross Rivers.
The aggrieved Governors (G7) present were Babangida Aliyu-Niger, Abdulfatah Ahmed-Kwara, Rotimi Amaechi-Rivers and Rabiu Kwakwanso of Kano.
At the end of the meeting, Governors Aliyu and Imoke, who jointly read the communiqué, said the meeting was cordial and resolved that in spite of the unfortunate events that arose after the meeting of 15th of September, the parties remain committed to the resolution of the differences
They said the meeting also agreed to continue to take steps towards implementing the resolutions agreed to at the previous meetings and resolved to reconvene shortly after the Muslim Hajj and Christian pilgrimages are concluded.
Following the formation of a splinter group in August, the crisis rocking the PDP has been deepening. To bring the aggrieved seven governors back to the fold of the ruling party, President Jonathan has been meeting with them to resolve the issues at stake.
