President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya has declared three days mourning for the persons who lost their lives during the Westgate terror attack on Saturday.
Kenyatta made the announcement in a live broadcast on Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
He called for support from Kenyan friends across the globe to deal with the situation, adding that terrorism is a global problem that requires global solution.
It would be recalled that the Kenyan authorities had announced the killing of 68 people, including foreign nationals and six security agents in the attack suspected to have been carried out by Al-Shabaab.
The attack also left at least 240 others with various degrees of injuries from gunshots as well as fractures and wounds sustained while trying to escape the attack.
Kenyatta announced that so far more than 60 people had been operated upon at various hospitals across the country following the injuries sustained.
The president announced that six of the attackers had been killed by Kenyan security agents during the siege at the mall, while 13 others had been arrested.
He also confirmed that some foreign national, including a woman who allegedly participated in the attack, and assured that investigation had commenced to ascertain their alleged involvement.
According to him, the Kenyan security have rescued all those held hostage by the attackers.
He added that some few persons had been trapped following the collapsed of three floors of the mall’s building after it was set ablaze by the attackers
Kenyatta commended Kenyans for the show of love to the victims by donating blood and funds amounting to 60 million shillings for the treatment of the injured persons.
He also commended Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan and other Africans as well as others countries that called intermittently to register their sympathy and support to Kenya.
He urged Kenyan to be strong pledging that the security agents were doing everything to unraveled those behind the attacks and bring to them to book.
However, the where about of the remaining gunmen are yet to be established.
