Dr Benson Enikuomehin, a lawyer and Fellow Chartered Public Administrator (FCPA), has commended the House of Representatives for its reported resolution urging the Federal Government to retain the original route of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Enikuomehin, who expressed appreciation to members of the House, said the resolution had reinforced the agitation by coastal communities in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State for the highway to follow its original route and alignment.
In a statement dated October 22, 2026, Enikuomehin urged the Senate to support the position of the House of Representatives, expressing hope that the upper legislative chamber would recognise the concerns of the affected communities.
He described the resolution as a significant development for the people of Ilaje, saying it had given them renewed hope in their campaign for the retention of the original highway alignment.
“We are happy in the coastal communities of Ilaje LGA in Ondo State. We heartily appreciate the Honourable Members of the House of Representatives for supporting this noble cause. You have given life to us by your resolution,” he said.
The lawyer maintained that the resolution had strengthened calls on the Minister of Works and the ministry to reconsider the highway’s route and return to the original alignment.
He also appealed to officials of the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja to heed the position expressed by the lawmakers and take appropriate steps to address the concerns raised by the coastal communities.
Enikuomehin expressed confidence that the intervention by the House of Representatives would contribute to resolving the controversy surrounding the route of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
He called on the Senate to lend its support to the resolution, stressing that the decision was important to the interests and aspirations of the affected communities in Ondo State.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a major federal infrastructure project that has attracted public debate over its alignment and implications for communities along the coastal corridor.
Enikuomehin’s statement adds to calls by stakeholders in Ilaje for the Federal Government to reconsider the route and ensure that the concerns of the affected communities are addressed.
