Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter, King Rapsodi, has released a new single titled “Ogogoro,” a love-inspired track that captures the overwhelming emotions of falling deeply in love.

The song draws a playful comparison between romantic infatuation and ogogoro, the locally distilled gin known for its strong alcoholic kick, using the metaphor to convey the intoxicating effect of love.

Born Rasaki Andrew Sodiki, the Osun State-born artiste, who is based in Lagos, has been making music since 2020, gradually developing his sound before gaining wider attention with his freestyle track, “Ashawo,” which went viral across social media, particularly TikTok.

In “Ogogoro,” King Rapsodi tells the story of a woman who has captured his heart and gained considerable influence over his emotions.

Through the use of affectionate expressions, including “kokoma,” the singer acknowledges that the woman plays with his feelings and holds his heart in her hands. However, he is willing to surrender to the experience because he believes his love for her is genuine.

The song combines the playful confidence associated with street-pop music with the vulnerability of a man who has discovered a romantic connection he is determined to protect.

King Rapsodi also expresses his admiration for the woman’s physical appeal, particularly her body and waist, while promising to spend money to satisfy her desires.

His declarations portray a lover willing to go beyond words to demonstrate his affection, presenting romance as an experience that demands emotional commitment and material generosity.

The track’s emotional depth emerges in its recurring question about who would stand by the woman if he were to die. The singer insists that nobody would love her as deeply as he does, reinforcing his devotion with a declaration that he would take a bullet for her.

Blending romantic themes with the energetic and expressive character of Afrobeats, “Ogogoro” explores the vulnerability, passion and sacrifices that can accompany deep affection.

The single is expected to appeal to listeners who enjoy love-themed Afrobeats and street-pop music, particularly those drawn to songs that combine catchy expressions with declarations of loyalty and commitment.
