Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have emerged champions of the 2026 WAFU-U17 Girls’ Cup after defeating Togo 4-0 in the final in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday.
The victory capped an impressive campaign in which the Nigerian side won all five of their matches, including victories over Ghana and hosts Côte d’Ivoire.
Captain Chidi Harmony was the star of the final, scoring twice in the first half to give Nigeria a commanding lead.
Harmony converted two penalties in the 15th and 35th minutes as the Flamingos went into the break 2-0 ahead.
Nigeria continued their dominance after the restart, with Olubebube Umejiaku adding a third goal in the 67th minute before Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the 4-0 victory in the 90th minute.
Speaking after the match, Harmony said winning all five games was a difficult achievement but expressed pride in the team’s performance.
“We are so proud of what we have achieved. It is not easy to win all five matches. Our main achievement is beating Ghana and the hosts Côte d’Ivoire,” she said.
The Flamingos will now shift their attention to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in Morocco, scheduled for October 17 to November 8.
Nigeria have been drawn in Group B alongside North Korea, Puerto Rico and Poland.
