The controversy between Big Brother Naija winner White Money and Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu has escalated following a dispute over comments concerning the reality TV star’s alleged Osu ancestry.
The dispute reportedly began after Maduagwu took to social media to describe White Money as an “outcast” and claimed that the recently released Nollywood film Properties of the Gods was connected to the reality star’s personal story. White Money subsequently threatened legal action over what he described as defamatory claims.
A video circulating online has now purportedly shown White Money in a confrontation involving Maduagwu and a bodyguard. The footage has sparked reactions on social media, although the circumstances surrounding the alleged physical altercation have not been independently established.
The controversy comes shortly after the nationwide release of Properties of the Gods, a historical drama that explores the Osu caste system and its consequences for individuals and families in Igbo society.
The film, produced by Joseph Okechukwu and directed by Uzodinma Okpechi and Okechukwu Oku, was released in Nigerian cinemas on September 4, 2026. It features actors including Pete Edochie, Enyinna Nwigwe, Hilda Dokubo, Zack Orji, Jennifer Eliogu and the late Onyeka Onwenu.
The Osu system historically referred to people and families who were regarded as being dedicated to traditional deities and subsequently subjected to social exclusion. The practice has been widely criticised as discriminatory, and Properties of the Gods was produced partly to encourage discussion about its abolition and promote social inclusion.
The controversy involving White Money and Maduagwu has therefore drawn additional attention to the film and the sensitive subject of Osu identity, while raising questions about the limits of social-media commentary and the appropriate response to potentially defamatory allegations
