Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reiterated the need for stronger international partnerships to accelerate Nigeria’s development, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare and poverty reduction.
Obi made the call after meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Egloff, describing their discussions as productive and focused on Nigeria’s developmental journey.
According to the former Anambra State governor, the meeting centred on critical sectors that are fundamental to national development, including improving education, strengthening healthcare services and implementing measures to lift more Nigerians out of poverty.
Obi also expressed appreciation to the Swiss Confederation for its continued support to Nigeria, acknowledging its contributions to economic, cultural, humanitarian and peace-building initiatives across the country.
He paid particular tribute to Switzerland’s interventions in the North-East, where humanitarian assistance and peace-building efforts have played a significant role in addressing the region’s challenges.
The former presidential candidate stressed that building stronger partnerships based on shared values and a commitment to human development is vital to creating a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
He maintained that sustained collaboration between Nigeria and its international partners would help advance national development goals and improve the lives of citizens.
Obi concluded his remarks with his familiar message of optimism, saying, “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
