The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has granted waivers to former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, to contest the Delta Central and Delta North Senatorial seats respectively in the 2027 general elections.

The party disclosed this in a press statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq.

According to the statement, the decision followed the formal defection of both political leaders from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the National Democratic Congress.

The NDC said it warmly welcomed the duo into the party and assured them of a credible, inclusive and people-oriented platform to pursue their political aspirations and contribute to the development of Delta State and Nigeria.

The party leadership explained that the waivers were granted in recognition of the political experience, leadership capacity and commitment of both leaders to democratic ideals, good governance and service to the people.

“The party leadership is confident that both leaders possess the competence, experience and grassroots support necessary to deliver quality representation to the people of Delta Central and Delta North Senatorial Districts,” the statement added.

The NDC also reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, inclusion, transparency and the collective aspiration of building a better Delta State and a greater Nigeria.

Omo-Agege previously served as Deputy President of the Senate, while Ochei served as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly before their latest political move to the NDC ahead of the 2027 elections.
