Veteran filmmaker and CEO of Wale Adenuga Productions, Wale Adenuga, has refuted claims by actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known as Papa Ajasco, that he is facing financial hardship.

The controversy began after Ayoyinka stated in a recent interview that he was broke, sparking widespread reactions online, particularly given his long-standing role in the popular television series Papa Ajasco and Company.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Adenuga described the claims as “false and misleading,” insisting that neither he nor his production company had neglected the actor. He suggested that Ayoyinka’s recent viral video may have been a deliberate attempt to leverage social media for financial gain.

Adenuga praised Ayoyinka as a versatile performer who closely resembles the original Papa Ajasco character, which he created in 1976, adding that there has been no serious fallout between them.

Addressing public reactions, the filmmaker said his response was aimed at correcting misinformation and preserving the integrity of a brand that has entertained Nigerians for decades. He also highlighted Ayoyinka’s background as a retired civil servant who served the Lagos State Government for over 30 years, noting that the actor enjoyed a stable career outside acting.

On allegations of neglect, Adenuga maintained that the production company had consistently supported its actors. He revealed that Ayoyinka had benefited from several provisions over the years, including access to vehicles and other forms of assistance, and reportedly owns a house in Ogun State.

He further clarified that restrictions on the use of the “Papa Ajasco” brand were strictly for brand protection, stressing that actors are free to pursue other professional opportunities, including advertisements, with prior approval.

Questioning the actor’s claims of financial distress, Adenuga asked what had become of Ayoyinka’s earnings and retirement benefits from his years of public service.

He also pointed out that other cast members—such as Pa James, Mama Ajasco, Boy Alinco, Miss Pepeiye, Akpan, and Oduma—regularly feature in other productions, demonstrating that the company does not limit external engagements.

According to Adenuga, actors typically spend only a few weeks annually on set, leaving ample time for other ventures. He reaffirmed that the organisation meets its financial obligations and operates in line with industry standards.

He concluded by reiterating his commitment to maintaining professional relationships and thanked the public for its continued concern and support.
