The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has emphasised the critical role of the media in promoting the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress.

Idris made the call on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for the party’s 2026 National Convention. The event was held at the Minister’s Conference Room in Radio House, Abuja.

Speaking at the ceremony, the minister, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the subcommittee, described the forthcoming convention as a landmark event for the ruling party. He said the gathering would provide an opportunity for the party to strengthen internal democracy and reaffirm its commitment to building a united, prosperous and progressive Nigeria.

According to Idris, the convention would also serve as a platform to showcase the achievements of the Tinubu administration and the progress made under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“As you are all aware, this convention represents a significant milestone in the life of our great party as we continue to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate our vision for a united, prosperous and progressive Nigeria,” he said.

The minister noted that the administration of President Tinubu is implementing far-reaching reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and long-term development. He added that the ruling party remains committed to advancing the President’s policy agenda.

Idris stressed that effective communication is essential for the success of major political events, particularly in today’s rapidly evolving information environment. He said the Media and Publicity Subcommittee has a strategic responsibility to ensure that the message and outcomes of the convention are clearly and accurately communicated to Nigerians and the international community.

“The responsibility entrusted to this committee is both strategic and critical. The success of any major political event depends greatly on how effectively its message is communicated to the public,” he said.

He explained that the committee’s duties would go beyond routine publicity and would include facilitating accurate information dissemination, strengthening transparency, coordinating media engagement, and ensuring effective communication of the convention’s processes and outcomes.

Idris also outlined the key responsibilities of the subcommittee, including content development, media relations, media planning and buying, liaison with other subcommittees on media-related activities, report writing and documentation, as well as media monitoring and performance evaluation across print and broadcast platforms.

He urged members of the committee to approach their assignment with professionalism, creativity and a strong sense of responsibility in order to ensure extensive and positive coverage of the convention.

Congratulating the members on their appointment, the minister expressed confidence that their experience and expertise would contribute significantly to the successful organisation and communication of the 2026 APC National Convention.

Idris subsequently declared the Media and Publicity Subcommittee formally inaugurated and wished members success in the discharge of their duties.
