The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has disclosed that 122,843 terrorists have voluntarily surrendered to the military since the launch of Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC) in 2015.

The figure was released in a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, who provided updates on military operations conducted between March 7 and 12, 2026.

Launched as a military-led, multi-agency initiative, Operation Safe Corridor aims to deradicalize, rehabilitate, and reintegrate (DRR) former Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) combatants. The program provides a voluntary exit route for insurgents, coupled with vocational training and psychosocial support, to reduce insurgency through non-kinetic means.

Onoja stated that 14 additional terrorists surrendered during the week under review, raising the total number of defectors to 122,843 since 2015.

The defence spokesperson also highlighted ongoing military operations across the country:

In Yobe State, troops intercepted three suspected logistics suppliers and arrested a terrorist tax collector.

In Borno State, troops repelled attacks on Forward Operating Bases in Tuba and Doro Baga, and ambushed two terrorists in Mantamaleri, Konduga LGA.

In Adamawa State, soldiers rescued kidnapped victims and seized 23 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) intended for terrorist use.

In the North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA dismantled terrorist logistics networks, including intercepting a suspected ammunition courier at the Yankara border between Zamfara and Katsina states. Investigators recovered live ammunition concealed in a motorcycle fuel tank.

Troops in Sokoto and Kebbi states apprehended 15 suspected logistics suppliers and repelled terrorist attacks in Sabon Tungar Village.

In the North Central, operations rescued multiple kidnap victims, neutralized terrorists, foiled cattle rustling, and intercepted a commercial trailer carrying 802 bags of granular ammonium sulphate, a substance used in explosives production.

Onoja emphasized that these operations demonstrate the military’s readiness, coordination, and commitment to safeguarding communities and critical infrastructure.
