Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians and members of the Armed Forces that the country will overcome its security challenges, promising that the sacrifices of military personnel will not be in vain.

The President gave the assurance on Friday during an interfaith breaking of fast with members of the Armed Forces at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, Tinubu commended the courage, professionalism, and dedication of troops battling terrorists and bandits across the country, noting that many soldiers serve the nation under difficult conditions and often away from their families.

“I commend your courage, sacrifice, and professionalism as you put your lives on the line in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens,” the President said.

Tinubu acknowledged that security personnel frequently confront attacks from bandits and terrorists but emphasised that their efforts have significantly weakened the capabilities of these groups in different parts of the country.

“You have been working to serve the country deeply and protect our sovereignty. This nation will always be grateful to you, and your sacrifices will not be in vain,” he added.

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and operational capacity of the military, promising continued investment in modern equipment, intelligence, and logistics to support troops on the frontlines.

Tinubu further thanked Nigerians for their patience and resilience amid ongoing economic reforms, expressing optimism that the country was beginning to emerge from its challenges.

“I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and that of fellow citizens are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel,” he said.

The President also expressed sympathy to the government and people of Borno State over a recent terrorist attack in the state.

Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, Oluwafemi Oluyode, represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, thanked the President for several approvals aimed at improving the welfare and operational efficiency of the Armed Forces.

Shaibu said the approvals included the upward review of salaries and allowances for military personnel, as well as investments in equipment procurement and improved accommodation for troops.

He noted that the initiatives would significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces and boost morale among personnel serving across the country.
