President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the official launch of Lebara Nigeria, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in Nigeria’s digital economy and its future as a leading technology and investment destination in Africa.

In a State House press release issued on February 28, 2026, the President said Nigeria’s telecommunications sector remains a major driver of economic growth, recording a 5.78 per cent year-on-year growth in the third quarter of 2025 and contributing over 14 per cent to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product.

Tinubu commended the leadership and partners of Lebara Nigeria, particularly the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Teniola Stuffman, for their commitment to expanding access to telecommunications services, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.

He noted that investments of this nature are critical to deepening financial inclusion, promoting innovation, and accelerating overall economic development.

The President also acknowledged the support of the British High Commission, represented at the launch by Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Jonny Baxter, stating that its participation underscores the enduring diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

According to Tinubu, such collaborations reflect Nigeria’s openness to responsible foreign investment and strategic global partnerships.

He further recognised the contributions of Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, Chairman of the Advisory Board, and other board members for their leadership and confidence in Nigeria’s economic potential.

The President stated that initiatives like Lebara Nigeria would significantly boost job creation, youth empowerment, enterprise development, and broader economic diversification.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to maintaining a stable, transparent and investment-friendly environment, Tinubu said the government would continue to support innovation and private enterprise to advance Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.

He wished Lebara Nigeria success as it begins commercial operations and encouraged sustained collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive the nation’s digital growth.
