Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the winners of Saturday’s elections held in the Federal Capital Territory, as well as in Kano State and Rivers State, describing the polls as peaceful and a testament to Nigeria’s growing democratic culture.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted elections across the six area councils of the FCT and held by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State. By-elections were also conducted in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
President Tinubu urged the victorious candidates to serve with humility, patriotism, and dedication, stressing that the mandate entrusted to them by the electorate is a sacred trust that must be honoured through responsible leadership.
He commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as remarkable achievements in the territory, noting that the administration’s performance has yielded political dividends for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The President also congratulated the APC’s national leadership, as well as its Kano and Rivers chapters, and party members for their victories at the polls.
President Tinubu lauded INEC, security agencies, and voters for ensuring the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections. He further praised the courage and discipline demonstrated by all contestants, noting that democracy thrives on active participation and healthy competition.
Affirming that the successful elections have strengthened Nigeria’s democratic institutions, the President called on INEC to continue improving the electoral process to deliver even more credible and exemplary elections in the future.
The statement was issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
