The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert for Monday to Wednesday, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and dusty conditions across parts of the country.
According to NiMet’s outlook released on Sunday, the northern region will experience generally sunny and cloudy skies throughout the period.
In the southern region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected, with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River later on Monday.
On Tuesday, NiMet forecast sunny and hazy conditions over the northern and central regions, while the south will experience sunny skies with cloud patches. Morning thunderstorms with light rain are expected in parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. Later in the day, thunderstorms are likely in Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.
For Wednesday, the agency predicted sunny and hazy skies over the northern region in the morning, with dust haze expected in the afternoon and evening. The central region will also experience sunny and hazy conditions.
In the south, cloudy skies with sunny intervals are expected, alongside isolated thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.
NiMet warned that dust particles are in suspension over the North-Central region and advised residents, especially those with respiratory conditions such as asthma, to take necessary precautions.
The agency also urged motorists to drive with caution during rainfall and advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective flight planning.
