Two men have been arraigned before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a bag of rice.
The defendants, Agbo Agbonopo, 20, and Salisu Abubakar, 25, were charged with stealing and pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on February 2 at about 2:30 p.m. in the Gbaji area along the Seme border in Badagry.
According to the prosecution, the suspects conspired to steal a bag of rice valued at ₦58,000, belonging to Francis Adeyemi.
Mr Ekpo said the defendants were arrested while attempting to sell the stolen item and were subsequently handed over to the police.
The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendants bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum. He ruled that one of the sureties must be a community leader.
The case was adjourned until March 4 for mention.
