The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old landlady, Nafisat Lateef, for allegedly poisoning the three-year-old son of her tenant in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The incident was reported at the Odigbo Police Division by the child’s mother, Rofiyat, 32, both residents of Omifon community in Odigbo.
According to police sources, the suspect allegedly gave the child, identified as Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous at about 8:30 a.m. following a minor disagreement with the child’s mother, who is her tenant.
Shortly after ingesting the substance, the child reportedly began vomiting and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received medical attention.
Police detectives were said to have arrested the suspect during a swift operation and recovered the suspected poisonous substance.
Confirming the arrest, the state police spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the suspect is currently in custody and has made useful statements. He added that investigations are ongoing and the case will be charged to court upon conclusion.
Abayomi advised residents to avoid landlord-tenant disputes, warning that such conflicts often escalate and lead to criminal acts. He reassured the public of the police command’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring justice.
