Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Amandi has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Amandi was taken into custody alongside several military officers accused of planning a forceful seizure of power, security sources confirmed.
A source within the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) said the actor, a former chairman of the AGN Enugu State chapter, was arrested in September 2025. He is alleged to have served as a media propagandist for the suspected coup plotters.
Investigators allege that the officers involved planned a violent takeover and discussed the assassination of top government officials, including President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.
The Defence Headquarters on Monday confirmed the discovery of what it described as an unlawful plot to unseat the government. It stated that investigations had been concluded and forwarded to the appropriate authorities, adding that the implicated officers would face trial before military judicial panels.
In a statement, the military said the probe was comprehensive and uncovered conduct that violated the ethics and professional standards of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Amandi has built a career in Nollywood as an actor, director and production manager. His works include The Album, Tiger King (2008), Cornerstone (2019) and Once Upon a Dream (2024). His last Instagram post was made on September 19, 2025, days before his arrest.
