Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced his intention to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, January 26, 2026.

The governor made this known in a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, days after Yusuf resigned his membership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf’s decision was informed by prevailing political and governance realities, as well as the need to promote national cohesion and development. It described the APC as a familiar and structured platform capable of supporting progressive governance.

The statement recalled that Yusuf was an original member of the APC, having joined the party in 2014 when he won its primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat, a ticket he later relinquished to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Governor Yusuf said his return to the APC would strengthen cooperation between Kano State and the Federal Government, accelerate infrastructural development, improve security coordination, and enhance service delivery across the state. He added that the move would also promote political stability and unity in Kano.

The governor is expected to formally register as an APC member in Kano on Monday, alongside 22 members of the State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 local government chairmen in the state.

He is also scheduled to officially launch the APC e-registration exercise in Kano State.
