Eight members of the Kyegh family have died after their vehicle plunged into River Dura in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
The victims were reportedly travelling midweek to make final burial arrangements for a deceased relative when the accident occurred.
A community source confirmed that all occupants of the vehicle died on the spot, leaving their community in deep shock and mourning.
Chairman of Vandeikya Local Government, Dennis Guda, visited the family and described the tragedy as heartbreaking. He settled the mortuary bills and donated eight caskets to support the burial plans.
“No family deserves to experience such unimaginable loss alone. We stand with them in this painful moment,” he said.
