The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, says the Church welcomes increasing global scrutiny over attacks on Christian communities across Northern Nigeria and the Middle Belt, noting that international pressure may finally compel the Federal Government to act.

Speaking in Jos at the opening of CAN’s Fourth Quarterly National Executive Council meeting, Okoh said the world is becoming alarmed by the scale of killings, kidnappings, and destruction targeting Christians. He reaffirmed CAN’s position that a “Christian genocide” is unfolding in parts of the country.

Okoh recalled his recent visit to Bokkos, where he met displaced families and saw communities wiped out. He said such devastation explains why global concern has intensified.

“We declare with one united voice: You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. The Body of Christ stands firmly with you,” he said.

While lamenting that Nigeria is attracting attention for tragic reasons, Okoh said CAN supports any international pressure that pushes government to protect vulnerable communities and end impunity.

“If global attention is what is required to spur decisive governmental action, then we welcome it,” he stated.

He vowed that CAN will continue to demand justice, accountability, and lasting peace for affected communities. He also called for the urgent resettlement of displaced persons, warning that prolonged stay in IDP camps poses long-term risks to national stability.

“No individual should ever be persecuted or killed on account of their faith,” he added, urging Christian leaders to remain united as the world watches Nigeria’s response.
