The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that the Commander of 25 Task Force Brigade was abducted during an ambush by terrorists in Wajiroko, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, the Army confirmed that troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade, accompanied by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), came under heavy terrorist fire while returning from a routine patrol around communities in Wajiroko, near the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.

The patrol was personally led by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General M. Uba, who, according to the Army, “courageously fought through the insurgents’ ambush with superior firepower,” forcing the attackers to flee in disarray and abandon their mission.

Despite the successful breakout, the Army disclosed that two soldiers and two CJTF members “paid the supreme price,” describing them as brave men who died in active service to the nation.

While commiserating with the families and associates of the fallen personnel, the Army high command praised the gallantry of the troops and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting frontline forces.

“The Army Headquarters debunks the fake narrative going round some media platforms alleging the abduction of the Brigade Commander,” the statement said. “The general public is advised to disregard the fake news.”

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, commended the troops for their bravery and resilience, noting that their efforts in one of the most dangerous theatres of conflict continue to safeguard the nation.

“Their unflinching commitment, even in the face of grave danger, remains a powerful reminder of the daily sacrifices being made by our gallant service men and women,” the COAS said.
