The Presidency has dismissed reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit the United States to meet with U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, described the report by Sahara Reporters as “fake news.”

Ajayi wrote: “There is a Sahara Reporters story claiming President Tinubu is going to the U.S. on Tuesday to see U.S. Vice President JD Vance. That story is not true. The fake news has already inspired several uninformed commentaries. If President Tinubu were visiting the White House, he wouldn’t be going to see a vice president.”

Sahara Reporters had earlier alleged that President Tinubu would embark on a U.S. trip for diplomatic talks following tensions over alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria and threats of possible military action from Washington. The outlet claimed that President Donald Trump had delegated Vice President James David Vance to receive Tinubu during the supposed visit.

However, the Presidency has firmly denied the report, insisting there is no such trip planned.
