President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to end the lingering security challenges confronting the country, declaring that Nigeria cannot continue to is with the crisis that began in 2009.

Speaking at the decoration ceremony of the new Service Chiefs held at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday, the President urged the military leadership to demonstrate unwavering patriotism, innovation, and courage in defending the nation’s territorial integrity.

“We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer,” Tinubu said. “Security threats are constantly evolving, constantly mutating. Of grave concern is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South. We must not allow these threats to fester. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head.”

Tinubu congratulated the officers on their appointments and Senate confirmations, noting that their selection was deliberate and based on their track record and capacity to deliver results.

“Today’s ceremony is beyond the symbolism of decoration. It marks the beginning of our renewed effort to ensure the peace and security of all Nigerians,” he stated.

The President commended the armed forces for their resilience in reclaiming territories once occupied by terrorists and for their sacrifices in protecting the country, saying that countless soldiers had paid the ultimate price for peace.

He acknowledged improvements in security but cautioned that emerging threats demand renewed vigilance and proactive measures.

“Our people and our nation must remain secure to enjoy the benefits of governance. Nigerians expect results, not excuses,” he told the service chiefs.

Tinubu further urged the military to embrace technology and adopt pre-emptive strategies to outsmart terrorists and criminal groups. He assured them of the government’s full support in executing their constitutional responsibilities.

“I promise to provide all the support you need to get the job done. May God continue to keep our armed forces safe,” he concluded.

The event, held at the Presidential Villa, formally marked the beginning of a new phase in the administration’s fight against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity threatening national stability.
