Manchester United legend David Beckham has reportedly been approached to front a new takeover bid for the club as the Glazer family considers offers exceeding £5 billion for their controlling shares.
A consortium from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is said to be preparing a formal offer and wants Beckham to serve as the face of the bid. The group also plans to give the former England captain, who owns stakes in Inter Miami and Salford City, an opportunity to invest in the club.
Beckham, who made nearly 400 appearances for United, remains a top choice for the consortium, although other ex-players such as Eric Cantona and Wayne Rooney are also being considered.
Despite his previous criticism of the Glazers’ ownership, Beckham could play a key role in winning fan support for the bid. The American owners, who bought the club in 2005 for £790 million, are reportedly seeking to double its current estimated value of £2 billion.
Meanwhile, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group, which owns nearly 29 percent of the club after its 2024 investment, may be forced to sell its stake if the Glazers decide to sell their majority holdings.
Speculation about a potential sale intensified recently after Saudi sports chief Turki Al-Sheikh hinted online at new investment interest in the club, though he later downplayed his comments.
