An ARISE News Channel broadcaster, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, has been killed during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025. Police authorities confirmed that investigations have begun into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Sommie, who was 29 years old, worked as a news anchor, reporter, and producer with ARISE News. She was also a trained lawyer.
In a statement, ARISE News described her passing as a devastating loss, calling her a vibrant professional who inspired and connected with viewers. The channel extended condolences to her family and urged security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Her death has sparked grief across the Nigerian media industry, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, friends, and viewers.
