Peter Obi Participates in Black Congressional Week, Receives Honorary Citizenship of Georgia

Washington, D.C. — The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, on Thursday, September 25, participated in a series of activities marking Black Congressional Week in Washington, D.C., with a focus on Georgia State engagements.

The day began with the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception held at the U.S. Senate Kennedy Caucus Room, hosted by Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock. Senator Warnock, a noted advocate for Africa’s growth and stability, encouraged Obi to engage in dialogue on African democracy and development.

Obi also attended an engagement hosted by Georgia Power, the state’s largest independent power company, which produces and distributes more than 20,000 megawatts of electricity nationwide. His discussions with the company’s CEO, Ms. Kim Clark, provided what he described as “deeply insightful perspectives” on energy development.

At the One Voice Africa event, organised by a coalition dedicated to defending the dignity of Black immigrants, Obi urged participants to take stronger interest in advancing good governance across Africa. He emphasized that the continent’s potential remains vast but requires visionary and responsible leadership to be realised.

The day concluded with the conferment of Honorary Citizenship of Georgia on Obi by the State of Georgia—an honour he described as a highlight of his visit.

Reflecting on the events, Obi said the experience was about “learning, serving, and remaining committed to building a new Nigeria that is truly possible.”
