Tragedy struck on Sunday when a commercial bus belonging to Adamawa Express plunged into the Namnai River in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day while the bus, en route to Taraba, attempted to cross the collapsed Namnai Bridge. The vehicle lost balance on the broken section and tumbled into the river.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared the report on X, noted that the bridge had been left unrepaired for over a year despite repeated government promises. Residents described it as a constant threat to lives and property.
“We have lost many lives here due to neglect. This tragedy shows how urgent the repair of this bridge is,” a resident lamented.
As of press time, the number of casualties had not been confirmed. Attempts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Yahaya Suleiman, were unsuccessful.
Photos from the scene showed the submerged bus and bodies recovered from the river.
