Police in Ondo State have arrested three men suspected of kidnapping Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

The suspects were reportedly caught while sharing the ₦7 million ransom allegedly paid by the victim’s family and the university’s alumni. The arrest followed a police operation that tracked one of the phones used to negotiate the ransom.

They were apprehended in the Ago Panu forest, located between Oba Akoko and Owo. Eleyinmi had been abducted a week earlier at his home along the Akungba–Supare Akoko road. His wife narrowly escaped during the attack, which began with sporadic gunfire to scare away neighbours.

Ondo State Police spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspects are undergoing profiling and interrogation. He added that Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal has directed that the suspects and recovered evidence be handed over to the anti-kidnapping squad for a thorough investigation.
