Chief Olabode Ibiyinka George, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Atona Odua of Yorubaland, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Professor Jubril Aminu, describing him as “a man of great intellect and integrity.”
In a heartfelt tribute, Chief George hailed the late scholar, diplomat, and politician as a selfless leader whose contributions to Nigeria’s development remain enduring. “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Professor Jubril Aminu, a distinguished scholar, diplomat, and a founding member of our great party, the PDP,” he said.
Recalling Aminu’s impactful career, George praised his leadership as former Minister of Education and Petroleum Resources, noting that his “visionary and introspective focus immensely helped shape critical sectors of our country.”
Beyond politics, the PDP stalwart shared a personal connection with the late professor, recounting Aminu’s unwavering support during his legal travails. “I can recall how he stood by me during my phantom trial and incarceration. He visited me several times to demonstrate his solidarity. He was a true elder statesman and very personal to me,” George said.
He concluded by emphasizing Aminu’s lasting legacy: “His legacy will continue to impact on the countless lives he touched and the institutions he helped build. Nigeria has lost a rare gentleman and one of her finest.”
Professor Jubril Aminu’s passing marks the end of an era in Nigerian public service and intellectual life, with tributes pouring in from across the nation.
