Princess Mojisola Meranda, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has dismissed rumors about her resignation, asserting that she is still the Speaker and remains in office.
In a statement made through her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, Meranda firmly denied the claims, saying, “I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from.” Ajiboye further added, “It’s a lie from the pit of hell. There’s no truth to this story. As the CPS, I’m here doing my work, and the Speaker is in her office. Everyone is focused on their respective duties. We have no idea where this rumor originated. The Speaker has not resigned, and there are no plans for that.”
A circular circulating online, dated February 17, 2025, falsely claimed Meranda had stepped down, sparking confusion. However, investigations revealed that the letter was unsigned, adding to the uncertainty.
The Lagos Assembly has been embroiled in a leadership crisis since former Speaker Mudashiru’s removal by 36 lawmakers.
