Elon Musk’s startup, xAI, will unveil its Grok 3 chatbot on Monday, calling it the “smartest AI on Earth” amid fierce competition. The AI product will go live with a demonstration at 8:00 pm Pacific time (0400 GMT), Musk confirmed on Saturday via his social media platform, X.
Grok 3, trained on synthetic data, is designed to improve by reflecting on its mistakes, ensuring logical consistency. Musk, who is also focused on SpaceX and Tesla, said he would be fine-tuning the product over the weekend.
With AI products like OpenAI’s ChatGPT dominating the market, xAI aims to carve out a competitive edge. Last month, Chinese startup DeepSeek challenged US AI ambitions with a high-quality, low-cost chatbot that surpassed ChatGPT in downloads.
Musk has repeatedly warned about AI’s risks to human civilization but is investing heavily in the sector. xAI raised $6 billion in funding last December, bringing its total funding to $12 billion, with backing from investors like Nvidia, AMD, and funds from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. While still behind OpenAI, xAI has become one of the world’s most valuable startups.
Musk, who launched xAI in July 2023, had previously called for a pause in developing powerful AI models. Last week, OpenAI’s board rejected Musk’s $97.4 billion offer to buy the company.
