In a decisive move against police misconduct, the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, has terminated the employment of three officers involved in a criminal scheme where they kidnapped and extorted money from innocent victims. The officers have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution, alongside their civilian accomplices.

The dismissed officers are:

Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi (Force No. 501356) – Area Command, Aba

Corporal James Daniel (Force No. 511844) – Department of Operations, Umuahia

Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka (Force No. 511853) – Eziama Division

Reports from the police indicate that the officers, in collaboration with two civilians, rented a minibus and carried out the kidnapping along the Port Harcourt Expressway on January 29, 2025. Armed with an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol, they terrorized their victims and forced them to hand over large sums of money. They further extorted ransom payments from the victims’ families before releasing them.

Their criminal activities were halted when they were apprehended by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abayi. A prompt investigation followed, leading to an Orderly Room Trial that confirmed their involvement in the crime. Consequently, they were dismissed from the force, and their police equipment was confiscated.

CP Danladi Isa strongly condemned the officers’ actions, emphasizing that the Abia State Police Command has a zero-tolerance policy for corruption and misconduct. He reassured the public that the force remains dedicated to upholding discipline, integrity, and public trust, as directed by the Inspector General of Police.

The Abia Police Command has vowed to ensure justice is served and will continue to uphold law and order in the state.
