Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State Assembly, who was kidnapped by gunmen on the eve of Christmas 2024 in Onitsha, has been found dead.

His decomposing body was discovered on Wednesday night near the Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha by a security team sent from Abuja. The team included police officers and members of a local vigilance group.

Azuka represented the Onitsha North 1 constituency.

Reports indicate that some of those responsible for his abduction have been apprehended by the Abuja-based security team.

Anambra Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the discovery of the lawmaker’s body, but did not confirm any arrests. He mentioned that investigations are ongoing, with security operatives now securing the area.

Azuka was abducted while on his way to spend Christmas with his family along Ugwunabamkpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha.

Two others who were kidnapped alongside him, Ben Ezemma (also known as ‘Big Ben’) and Obiora Agbasimelo, the Labour Party’s 2021 gubernatorial candidate, are still missing.
