As of Monday, January 20, 2025, the death toll from the petrol tanker explosion in Niger State has risen to 98, with 69 others injured. Additionally, 26 shops were completely destroyed in the devastating incident.
Abdullahi Baba-Arah, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), provided an update on the tragedy, which occurred in Diko, Niger State. The explosion also resulted in the destruction of 20 shops, leaving business owners with significant losses.
In his statement, Baba-Arah described the incident as a catastrophic tragedy, bringing the state into a state of mourning. Rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency responders working tirelessly to assist the injured and recover the bodies of the victims.
“We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate event. The state government and NSEMA remain committed to supporting the victims and ensuring that the injured receive the necessary care,” Baba-Arah said.
