An unemployed man, Olayemi Oluwadamilare of Air force Quarters, Ilorin, Kwara State, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Area Court in Centre-Igboro for allegedly stealing N58,000 belonging to his neighbour.

The prosecutor, ASP Isah Abubakar, told the court that on October 13, Nasir Habibullahi of the same address reported the case at the police headquarters in Ilorin.

Mr Abubakar said that the complainant claimed that his wife, Habibat, told him that she saw the defendant around their apartment door while she was washing clothes “about the time the money got missing.”

The prosecutor said that the complainant called the defendant’s phone several times, but he did not pick up and so suspected that he had stolen the money.

The defendant pleaded not guilty, saying that he was not home when the money got missing.

The Presiding Judge, Hammad Ajumonbi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.

Ajumonbi said that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and must deposit N30,000 and two passport photographs.

The case was adjourned until October 31, for hearing.
