Arsenal came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory against Southampton, with goals from Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli within a decisive ten-minute span in the second half.
After Southampton took an early lead through Cameron Archer, Mikel Arteta’s side faced a potential upset. However, Havertz leveled the score just three minutes later, followed by Martinelli’s goal in the 68th minute.
Southampton nearly equalized when they struck the woodwork twice within a minute, but Bukayo Saka sealed the win with a goal two minutes from time. The Gunners now remain level on points with Manchester City and just one point behind leaders Liverpool.
In a week where Saka expressed confidence in Arsenal’s title chances, the team returned to the Emirates after a significant win over Paris Saint-Germain. Southampton, struggling with just one point from their first six matches, posed an early threat.
Aaron Ramsdale made his return to the Emirates, and he had a scare in the seventh minute when a poor clearance nearly cost his team. Arsenal controlled the game but failed to register a shot on target until injury time, where Ramsdale had to parry a Thomas Partey strike.
The visitors shocked the home crowd shortly after the break when Archer capitalized on a defensive lapse to score, putting Southampton ahead in the 55th minute.
However, the lead was short-lived as Havertz equalized just three minutes later with a precise shot after Saka dispossessed Flynn Downes.
The game shifted in intensity, and Arteta’s substitutions brought Martinelli into play. He scored from a Saka cross, which went through Ramsdale’s legs after a brief VAR check confirmed he was onside.
As Southampton pressed for an equalizer, they were denied by the woodwork twice, but Saka’s late goal ensured Arsenal maintained their momentum in the title race.
