The Federal Government has suspended the officers in charge of the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres, Kirikiri, Lagos State. This followed an audio leak indicating that cross dresser, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky who was convicted of naira mutilation and sentenced to six months in jail was given an apartment outside the custodial centre.
Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), announced the suspensions in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja. This follows Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s initiation of an investigation into the allegations on Wednesday.
In the statement, Ahmed explained that the suspensions aim to facilitate further investigation into the various claims, assuring that the results will be made public once the inquiry is complete.
He stated, “In light of the viral video on social media regarding alleged misconduct by officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service involving Mr. Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, the CDCFIB has immediately suspended the following senior officers:
– Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State.
– Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State.
Additionally, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, stationed at the MSCC in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, has been suspended for allegedly taking a convicted inmate outside the custodial centre. Furthermore, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) at the Kuje MSCC in Abuja, has also been suspended for reportedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.
