Former Finance Minister Senator Nnenadi Usman has been named the chair of the Labour Party’s 29-member national caretaker committee. Usman, who previously represented Kaduna South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate from 2011 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), joined the Labour Party during the 2023 general election.

Joining her in this role is Hon. Darlington Nwokocha, the Labour Party’s 2023 Abia Central Senatorial candidate.

The appointment was announced during an extended stakeholders’ meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Abia State Government House in Umuahia, Abia State, on September 4. The announcement was made by Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

In her acceptance speech, Usman pledged to work diligently and emphasized the importance of party unity. The former party chairman, Julius Abure, was notably absent from the meeting.
