The massive support and acceptability of the PDP governorship candidate in Edo state, Asue Ighodalo has thrown the opposition party, the APC into disarray, as they are desperately scheming for the disqualification of Ighodalo from the September 21 race.

Sources close to the APC party Secretariat in Edo state, revealed that the elders and stakeholders are not comfortable with the grassroot acceptability of Ighodalo.

In their desperation, the party elders are pushing for Abuja to get involved by ensuring the use of Federal might or utilizing the judiciary against Ighodalo.

Efforts made to get the Federal might to work in APC’s favour hit the rock as sources in Abuja said it wouldn’t be drawn into it.

Abuja pointedly said it would not risk an unrest in Edo because of the ripple effect it might cause in the South South region, especially in Delta and Bayelsa states.

“The pipelines are too precious for any government to toy with because of an individual.”

Being an off cycle election, the world is watching and Nigeria having been returned as ECOWAS chairman, cannot afford to be seen to be disrupting free and fair elections, not only in Edo but also in Ondo state.

It was gathered that despite pressure by the state elders on the Federal might, the presidency has refused to yield to their plea

Having failed to get the Federal might, the party is in desperation as it has shifted focus to the judiciary.

The APC in Edo state believes that the only stumbling block for APC to government house is Ighodalo and everything must be done to take him off the stage.

In their desperation, it was gathered they are now employing the possibility of getting Ighodalo disqualified from the race through the court.

The use of the judiciary is also said to be shaky as judges are not unmindful of the Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN stern warnings to judges to be fair in their judgement no matter who is involved.

While the APC is running from pillar to post, Ighodalo is busy selling his programmes and blueprint to Edolites.

His campaign team said no distractions will hinder them from their goal of winning the forthcoming election in September.
