A police orderly assigned to HRH Cornwell Ihunwo, the paramount ruler of the Rumu-Elechi community in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been kidnapped.
Godstime Ihunwo, an executive member of the Diobu Vigilante and Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, reported receiving a call about the abduction at 9 PM on Saturday.
According to Ihunwo, the kidnappers initially intended to abduct the traditional ruler but ended up taking the police orderly and the driver instead.
Upon hearing the news, Ihunwo rushed to the monarch’s residence on Eagle Island, Port Harcourt, where HRH Cornwell Ihunwo confirmed the incident. Ihunwo stated, “I received a call about the abduction at about 9 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2024. I rushed to his house at Eagle Island where Chief Cornwell told me his driver and police orderly were abducted.”
“We condemn the planned abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo and call on the police to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident,” Ihunwo added.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that the case has been transferred to the Octopus Strike Force Police unit for further investigation.
