Falae:Lagos group backs “AFENIFERE” over resolution on Fulani Herdsmen
……..Cautions Kwankwaso,Sanni over comments
A Lagos –based group under the aegis of Save Lagos Group (SLG) has
thrown its weight behind the recent resolution of the Yoruba Social
–cultural organization, “AFENIFERE” on the expulsion of Fulani
herdsmen from the western Nigeria over incessant clash with the
farmers in the area, thereby endangering the lives of the innocent
farmers in the affected areas of the region.
The group also cautioned the former governor of Kano State, now Senator
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso and National
Assembly Lawmaker representing Kaduna State Central Senatorial
District , Senator Sheu Sanni over their comment on the sensitive
issue of this nature, just as it urged the Fulani herdsmen to accept
the option of registration, in order to nip the frequent clash of
Fulani herdsmen with the farmers across the western region of Nigeria
in the bud.
Speaking through a signed Press statement on the controversy generated
by the recent “AFENIFERE” resolution after the abduction of elder
Statesman, Chief Olu Falae, by the Convener of the group, Comrade
Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman which a copy was made available to newsmen in
Lagos yesterday, supported the expulsion of Fulani herdsmen in the
Zone, if they would continue to be the thorn in the flesh of our
farmers by endangering their lives and destroyed their hard earned
farm planting.
Comrade Sulaiman who strongly condemned the recent abduction of the
Former Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF) and
Presidential candidate, Chief Olu Falae at his farm in Akure, Ondo
State, noting that no region would fold her arms and allow strangers
to bring brigandage to their land by making their lives brutish and
shortish, adding that no Fulani man would allow any southern people to
be doing like a King In their area.
Rights activist then saluted the courage and wisdom of elders in the
apex Yoruba organization by taking the bull by the horn in order to
save the lives and properties of the people in the affected areas
across the region, urging the government at all levels in the country
to beef up security around the prone affected, so as to avoid replica
of Boko Haram harrowing experience in our region, enjoined the
affected farmers in the affected Southern region to be vigilant and be
at alert always.
Speaking further on the issued raised by Dr Kwankwaso, Sulaiman
cautioned former Kano State governor to stop blaming southern people
from showing nonchalant attitude towards western education after
independence in 1960,but they should apportion blame on their leaders
who held forth as Military rulers of the country for almost three
decades, commending the immediate past Nigeria President, Dr Goodluck
Ebele Jonathan for initiating and encouraging Almajiri/nomadic system
of education as a way to bring western education closer to the
northern people comprises of Hausa/Fulani people.
He added that Fulani herdsmen should not use their freedom of movement
to endanger the lives of fellow human being, particularly, in the
south western Nigeria, as being postulated by Senator Sheu Sanni of
Kaduna State, adding that “people should not be denied of their rights
as it is crystal and trite principle of law that where someone’s right
stop beget the commencement of others rights. This implies that rights
are not absolute and one’s right should not be exercised in a manner
that would amount to the infringement of the right of other citizens.
“The option of registration of Fulani herdsmen in our region is very
important to save the lives and property of the affected farmers
because the Fulani herdsmen has been the threat to the peaceful
co-existence of the Southern region since all this while but they
increased the tempo immediately after General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd,
emerged as President of the Federal Republic.
