The Obi Media Office has condemned the attack on the campaign convoy of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by some youths in Calabar, Cross River State, on Wednesday, describing the incident as an unacceptable act of political violence.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, November 5, 2026, and signed by Idris Zekeri Jnr., the media office said the attack threatened democracy, peaceful political participation and the fundamental rights of Nigerians.

The office expressed concern over what it described as the deliberate exploitation of Nigerian youths by politicians who allegedly take advantage of economic hardship to recruit vulnerable young people for acts of violence and disruption of democratic activities.

It lamented that those who finance and organise political violence often remain insulated from its consequences, while the youths recruited to carry out such attacks risk losing their freedom, future and lives.

The statement urged Nigerian youths to reject being used as instruments of political destruction, insisting that their future should be built through education, productive engagement and responsible leadership rather than violence and political thuggery.

The Obi Media Office also called on security agencies to launch a comprehensive investigation into the incident, identify those directly involved as well as their alleged sponsors, and ensure that everyone found culpable is brought to justice.

Reaffirming Obi’s commitment to peaceful political engagement, the office said he remained dedicated to an issue-based campaign and urged political stakeholders to demonstrate civility, tolerance and respect for democratic principles.

It stressed that no political ambition could justify the loss of a Nigerian life, adding that the country belonged to all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations.
