Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday paid a condolence visit to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at his Abuja residence following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
The visit was disclosed in a statement by the Vice President’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha.
During the visit, Shettima described the deceased as a woman of great virtue and a pillar of strength for her family. He offered prayers for the repose of her soul and asked that the family be granted the strength to bear the loss.
According to the statement, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday after a brief illness at an advanced age.
She was laid to rest on Sunday following funeral prayers attended by family members, associates, and well-wishers.
Her death was earlier announced by her grandson, Bello El-Rufai, who expressed gratitude for her life and called for prayers for her soul.
Following her passing, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission granted temporary bail to El-Rufai to enable him participate in the funeral rites of his late mother.
