Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has lost a member of his media team, Mr. Ifeanyi Izeze, the Atiku Media Office announced on Sunday.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the media office described Izeze as a prominent and pioneer member of the team who played a significant role in supporting Atiku’s political communication efforts over the years.

According to the statement, Izeze joined Atiku’s media team in 2006 from the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), Ikot-Abasi, where he served as Office Manager. His entry into the team came at a critical period in Atiku’s political career, during which he contributed his extensive knowledge of the media landscape, as well as the Niger Delta and Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

Izeze studied Geology at the University of Port Harcourt up to postgraduate level but later established himself in journalism. Over the years, he reported extensively on the oil and gas sector and worked with several newspapers, including the defunct Sunray, Anchor and NewAge publications, before moving to ALSCON.

Within the Atiku Media Office, he rose to become a senior member of the team and served as its pioneer Office Manager. The statement noted that he contributed to shaping aspects of the communication strategies of Atiku’s presidential campaigns, particularly on issues affecting the Niger Delta and the oil and gas sector.

Beyond his professional career, Izeze was described as a man with a strong sense of humour and deep Christian faith. A member of Christ Embassy, he was also an ordained preacher within the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.

The Atiku Media Office prayed for God to grant his family, friends and colleagues the strength to bear the loss.

The statement added that details of his burial arrangements would be announced by his family. He is survived by his children, grandchildren and his elder brother, Pastor Emeka Izeze of the Guardian Newspapers.
